Restore Oxidized, Dull & Damaged Paint Surfaces

Process

What's Included

Every cut and buff service follows the same 6-step process — in this order, every time, with no steps skipped.

  1. Decontamination wash and clay treatment as needed

bonded grit is removed before abrasives touch the paint.

  2. Paint inspection and thickness check where appropriate

test spots confirm safe compound and pad choice.

  3. Heavy-cut compounding pass(es)

targeted defect removal on swirled or oxidized areas within safe clearcoat limits.

  4. Fine polishing to restore gloss

refinement step after cutting for a cleaner, wetter reflection.

  5. Final wipe-down and inspection

panels cleaned of dust and oils; results checked under inspection lighting.

  6. Application of quality sealant or wax when booked

protects freshly refined clearcoat (scheduled same visit or as an add-on).

Scope after inspection may adjust how many compound vs polish passes we use — the six stages still run in order. Severe sand damage or very thin clearcoat may limit how aggressive we can be; we tell you before committing.

FAQ

Questions We Get Often

They overlap. “Cut and buff” usually refers to compounding and refining steps without promising the full multi-stage correction program every vehicle might need. Full correction may add more polish stages, longer inspection, or broader panel coverage. We scope from what your paint can safely take.

Surface marring, oxidation, and many light scratches improve a lot; damage through clearcoat or into color may remain. We use test spots and lighting to avoid chasing defects that are not safe to remove.

Expect several hours to most of a day depending on vehicle size, how oxidized the paint is, and whether we add protection the same visit. RV and boat gel work scales with area and substrate.

Yes — freshly polished clearcoat needs sacrificial protection. Wax or sealant is quick to schedule the same day; ceramic adds prep and cure time but lasts longer. We align protection to your timeline.

We inspect thickness where needed, run test spots, and use pad and compound combinations matched to your clearcoat. If paint is too thin or too damaged, we stop rather than push for unsafe gloss.

Often yes for hood-only or spot work — blending into surrounding panels matters so you do not get “two-tone” gloss. Ask when you book so we schedule enough time for safe blending.

Bonded contamination should be gone before heavy compounding. We include decon/clay in prep when the surface needs it so compound is not grinding grit into the finish.

Yes with adjusted methods for gelcoat and marine substrates — not identical to automotive clearcoat. Expect scope and pricing to follow size, oxidation level, and storage condition.
